Vintage Matyo Heart Embroidery Kit

This versatile Hungarian embroidery kit features an original design adapted from vintage Matyó patterns in my collection with border elements inspired by Hungarian woodwork. The pattern was screen printed by hand onto the fabric with water-based textile ink. The center motif is embroidered in pearl cotton thread using satin and stem stitch. The border can be left as is (as a printed border), or it can be embroidered with additional stitches such as chain and buttonhole stitches. Embellishments such as beads or sequins could also be added. The finished piece can be framed in a hoop or stretcher bars, made into a device pouch (pictured) or a pocket on a tote bag, or made into a heart-shaped ornament.

The kit includes printed linen fabric to embroider with at least 3 inches of extra fabric on all sides; enough pearl cotton embroidery thread for the center motif plus extra for optional border elements; a crewel embroidery needle; and an instruction booklet with a photo of the finished piece. The fabric is washable (prewashing recommended if it the finished item will be washed). Additional supplies needed are: an embroidery hoop and scissors.

This kit is suitable for stitchers of all levels.
