This small town in the northeastern part of Hungary developed its own unique regional culture which was expressed in exquisite and colorful textiles, household objects and clothing worn by men, women and children.

Blue Dye Fabric (Nagynyarad)

Blue-dye (kekfestes), or resist indigo dyed fabric, is a specialized craft with only a handful of workshops still in operation. Blue-dyeing was originally brought to Hungary by German immigrants who arrived after the Ottoman occupation ended. Today this fabric is popular for use in clothing and for quilting and other crafts.
